RAW HAIR CARE AND EXPECTATIONS
Establishing the right haircare routine and maintaining realistic expectations are essential to keeping your hair beautiful for years. Whether you’re new to The Hair Feen or transitioning from Virgin to Raw Hair, we’re here to guide you.
Our Raw Indian Wavy Extensions are 100% RAW human hair and behave just like your natural hair. Because it is sourced directly from the human scalp, it requires proper care and attention—especially higher-maintenance textures. Without consistent care, you may not achieve your desired results.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Due to the wefting process, it is normal to experience a few loose hairs during your initial brush-out and first co-wash. This should significantly decrease after the first few washes.
With a consistent haircare routine, you can expect minimal to no daily shedding. RAW hair improves over time and thrives with proper care.
DAILY CARE
Gently brush or comb through the hair when styling. For added shine and frizz control, apply a small amount of alcohol-free glossing polish or serum as needed. Avoid product overload, as excess buildup can cause stiffness, matting, and tangling—when this happens, it’s time for a co-wash.
TIPS FOR MAINTAINING YOUR EXTENSIONS: DO'S AND DON'TS
Use only silicone- and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Silicones cause buildup and block moisture, while sulfates strip the hair of essential hydration, leading to dryness.
Daily maintenance is essential. Neglecting care can result in tangling, buildup, and damage. Proper upkeep keeps your extensions looking beautiful and extends their lifespan.
Avoid heavy products and excessive oils. Stick to a lightweight serum to prevent the hair from becoming greasy, weighed down, or stringy. Less product is always best.
Air dry whenever possible. Excessive blow-drying can cause heat damage and breakage. Remember, RAW hair behaves just like natural hair and should be treated with care.
Always invest in high-quality, professional-grade products. Your hair is an investment—the better you care for it, the longer it will maintain its beauty and longevity.
BI-WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
Deep conditioning is essential especially for curly textures. It helps with detangling, enhances the curl pattern, and restores moisture that may be stripped during cleansing. Maintaining moisture is key to preventing frizz and tangling. We recommend using a rich, smoothing deep conditioner to keep the hair soft and manageable.
Keep in mind that shampoo can strip the hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness if overused. Many prefer co-washing (using conditioner only), which is perfectly fine. However, you should occasionally use a gentle, hydrating clarifying shampoo to remove buildup and debris.
Here are the steps to follow:
[1] Divide your hair into 7–10 sections before showering to make washing and detangling easier.
[2] Use a wide-tooth comb or our recommended wavy hair brush to gently detangle each section, starting at the ends and working up to the roots.
[3] Thoroughly saturate your hair with water to ensure even moisture distribution.
[4] Start at the bottom of your installation. Use your fingers to part a 1-inch section and secure the remaining hair on top of your head.
[5] Apply a generous amount of conditioner to a 1-inch section and brush through with a Denman brush, starting at the ends and working up to the roots. Make two passes to ensure thorough detangling, from the top of the wefts to the ends.
[6] Repeat this process throughout your entire installation until each section is fully detangled and evenly coated with conditioner. Once complete, twist the hair into a top bun or braid and allow the conditioner to sit for 15–20 minutes. Avoid excessive manipulation to help prevent frizz.
[7] Rinse the hair thoroughly. To enhance waves, gently scrunch the hair or set it in rollers to define the pattern.
Use a cotton towel, microfiber towel, or soft t-shirt to dry the hair, as traditional bath towels can cause frizz.
[8] If desired, apply a small, dime-sized amount of smoothing oil or glossing polish to control frizz and lightly weigh down the hair. Allow the hair to air dry for a soft, natural finish.
[9] For added nourishment and to maintain the health and longevity of your extensions, use an intensive hair mask or hot oil treatment once a month or between installations.
MINIMUM HEAT
Extensions give your natural hair a well-deserved break, so let it rest! For straight styles, secure your extensions with a few bobby pins at night to avoid daily heat styling. For curls, try pin curls to maintain volume. Limit heat use to only when necessary. This includes your leave-out to prevent damage and keep your hair healthy.
BEDTIME CARE
Before bed, gather your hair into a high ponytail or loose bun to preserve the wave pattern and cover with a satin scarf or bonnet to reduce frizz. For more defined waves, try flexi-rods.
In the morning, remove the overnight protection and gently comb through, starting at the ends and working up to the roots with the recommended brush for our Wavy extensions. Style as desired.
